Book Review : Grit The power of Passion and perseverance Part 1

Based on the title I will review the grit book, and I will tell you why reading the book is so important for among teenagers. honestly from a young age I don’t like to read the book, even before I had absolutely no intention to read. as usual my father told me and gave me a book titled grit.

Chapter 1 Showing up

In this chapter, the researcher tells about his research experience at the Military Academy where the selection process for admission to the academy is very difficult and rigorous. Of the 14,000 applicants, only 1,200 were accepted and they were candidates with high academic scores. The writer then interview several people, first a military psychologist who passed training, he said that his not give up behavior caused him to survive in the military. I read a few things that motivated me : "Successful people are people who are able to get up when they fail and work hard and they know that what they do is really what they want, they not only have a definite goal but also direction". measurements of the grit taken several months before the final race predicted how well the final performance of the race participants.even if some of the things the had to do were boring, or frustrating, or even painful, the wouldn’t dream of giving up. Their passion was enduring.

Chapter 2 Distract By Talent

In this chapter, the researcher tells about his experience as a mathematics teacher in the first high school. In the first week it was already visible where students were faster to understand and not concepts of mathematics. However, it turns out at the end of the student meeting that was considered easy and quick to understand most did not deliver the expected results out of expectation, even the ones he considered the smartest obtained the worst score. The students he considered normal only obtained better results than expected. The author calls these students “overachievers.”  There was a student named David, he was quiet and sat in the back. not much raise his hand, he rarely answered questions in front of the class, but when the exam he always got the perfect score because after the class he always asked and asked questions more difficult. He was then transferred to the acceleration class, he said he was a little behind with the other students. He has a double degree and a PhD at UCLA. "focus on talent distracts us from something that is at least important, and that is effort" .

Chapter 3 Effort Count Twice

The story of famous writers Garp and Irving. It is said that Garp was born as a writer, without even studying his writing was very good, unlike Irving. Irving has a low verbal score of dyslexia, ou have overextend yourself, doing something over and over again,t “i have confidence in my stamina to go over something again and again no matter how diffcult it is” . without effort your talent is nothing more than your unmet potential, without effort your skill is nothing more than what you could have done but didn’t. with effort, talent becomes skill and at the very same time, effort makes skill productive”

Chapter 4 How Gritty are You?

While Taking The Grit scale, you might have noticed that none of the passion question asked how instensely youre commited to yor goals. because the word passion is often used to desvribe intense emotion. For a lot people , passion is synonymous with infatuation or obsession.

Chapter 5

In this chapter the author explains the origin of grit. whether grit is in our genes. Traits like honesty and generosity and yes grit are genetically influenced and in addition influence by experience. IQ, extroversion, enjoying the great outdoors, etc. nature matters and so does nurture.\The Flynn effect explains that the level of IQ has changed. The IQ of the past generation is different from the current generation. IQ levels are increasing as life is becoming more complex, competition is increasing, people think more concrete and based on benefits, if people are thinking more abstract and complex.

From all the reviews of this book I have already begun to understand what it means and learn the English vocabulary. for next chapter I will do in part 2.
