Visiting GambaranBrand : Brand Activist community
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, I had the opportunity to visit a very historic and impressive place, namely Kris Biantoro's old house. He was a famous actor and singer in the 70s to 80s. His house is in the Cibubur area, which is now a museum of his legacy and the place where Gambarbrand stands. Kris Biantoro, a legendary Indonesian actor and singer, married Maria Nguyen Kim Dung. In the house, we met his son, Arto Biantoro, a brand activist at Gambarbrand.
What we learned from Gambarbrand is not only from the branding theory but, what we feel with humans is the problem, and that's where we can find the brand to be famous. Starting from getting to know a fried banana seller. He felt very sorry and asked him "What are your goals?" and this seller replied, "I want to be a famous and successful seller ." In his way, in about 4 months or more, they built and created a profile of how to make this trader famous, until now.
There are three factors that made me learn that a brand is not only about being famous, but also that small business owners can make it into a big brand. The first is trust. In this small community, none of his team members have a basic branding background, but Arto Biantoro believes in his colleagues that they can learn and adapt. The second is consistency. Many small business owners go bankrupt for the same reasons, such as not entering the market or giving up early due to lack of profit. However, if we can be consistent with small targets, we can grow big and highlight branding that can become its market. The last is love. Branding is not just theory and strategy but love or feelings for what they need from us. With that, we can also feel complaints and problems; there we can also find solutions through branding.
I learned a lot about how brands are broad. We only know the well-known ones, but many SMEs have better performance and need this brand's support. The office is very simple, with a touch of old money and a very classic legacy from Kris Biantoro.
