Visiting PT Liwayway Oishi
One thing we learned from visiting PT Liwayway is to get a lot of information. PT Liwayway, also known as Oishi, is a snack manufacturer based in the Philippines. The company has two factories in Indonesia, one in Cikarang in West Java and one in Gresik in East Java. In 1946, the company started as a producer of corn starch and coffee packaging. Currently, the company's main focus is creating snacks. We also went to the factory to see how the products are made. There are many products, most of them are made from shrimp.
In the sharing session, I learned more about how they created fresh products and more. They ask internal staff for information about the latest developments in the market. They strive to create fresh shrimp. They plan to make copies of it and test it among their employees. They comment and make corrections before publishing the final result. The interesting thing I found there is that they use one tool for many different things. For example, they use a "chip" machine to create fries made from omelettes, shrimp, etc. This is also standard procedure when introducing new products.
Due to the production schedule of their chocolate line at the time, a very delicious chocolate aroma greets us inside. We are introduced to various machines such as packaging machines, cooling tunnels and extruders. My favorite part is when we get to see the mushroom making process and get fresh mushroom samples. It was still amazingly good and tasted amazing.
